Meet Assetz Capital Case Manager – Paul Egerton.
How long have you been at Assetz Capital and how did you get into business lending?
I joined Assetz Capital in July 2019, following my departure from Lloyds Banking Group after a redundancy. My journey in finance began back in 1985 with Lloyds Bank, where I entered the industry through a Youth Training Scheme. Over the years, I’ve held various roles across multiple branches in Greater Manchester. In 2001, I transitioned to the Business Banking Team as a Relationship Manager, handling portfolios of increasing complexity and value in branches across Oldham, Stockport, Manchester, and Heald Green. Eventually, I advanced to the role of Assistant Relationship Director in the Corporate Banking Team, which further solidified my path in business lending.
What does a normal day look like in your role?
My day-to-day responsibilities involve managing and progressing loans through every stage of the origination process, ensuring a seamless experience for customers. This includes maintaining strong relationships with clients, brokers, and all relevant professional stakeholders. I work closely with our Relationship Directors and internal teams to deliver outcomes that meet both customer needs and business objectives in a timely manner.
What’s the best thing about working at Assetz Capital and working in lending?
Without a doubt, it’s the people and the culture. The team I work within is exceptionally collaborative, and every day is both productive and enjoyable. Across the office, there’s a sense of camaraderie and shared vision, which creates a fantastic atmosphere. Moving from a large organization like Lloyds Banking Group to Assetz has also been refreshing, as it offers the chance to engage directly with Directors and Department Heads. This accessibility enables us to address matters directly impacting our work, and the ease of communication with decision-makers ensures things happen swiftly—an advantage that can’t be overstated.
What’s your favourite activity outside of work?
I can’t pick just one! Spending time with family, following sports, enjoying music, and watching films are all high on my list. I’ll keep my football allegiance private to avoid any potential rivalries! Recently, I’ve taken a keen interest in rugby since my youngest son started playing Rugby Union, though I have a general enthusiasm for most sports. Music-wise, I gravitate towards indie with a ‘Madchester’ influence, and I’m a fan of mafia-themed films.
